Lake Glendale Sailing Camp 2008

Juan's class including Blake, Mikey,
Alex, Serafina & Matthew

Rick mans a safety boat

We finished sailing camp at Lake Glendale on Friday and what a week is was!! Blue water, Blue sky, Blue lips!!!! It was a very cold start to a week that didn't get above 72 or so but we had lots of fun anyway!!!
Alex was styling in his shades- the good sailor!

Alex hiking out in the wicked wind!

Matthew readying his boat and off for a sail Matthew finished third in his racing division and Alex fourth (I think) The racing was over in no time due to 15-20 mph winds! Even the cadets (beginners) did great and only three capsizes in the race...One was our Serafina...she turtled but she was quick and efficient to get her up righted and through the race!

Our friend Christian seemed to spend more time in the water than on it this week but being a seasoned sailor-
he warmed up, dried off and headed right back in to tackle the wind and white caps!! And of course let's not forget Jasper! He had a great week too although not in the water as much as we would have liked but I was cold too! So he did some carting and some swimming on his own

It was a wonderful week again but we returned home only to wash all the clothes and repack the boys for a week of scout camp!!! So it is just mom, me and the animals.
Speaking of which- I must say what a VERY nice kitty our little Stache is! He is gentle, brave (he attacked Jasper) and very sweet. He loves to cuddle so we are ALL enjoying him!!

My mother was married three times in my childhood. Each a totally different character. O her second marriage (married Neil Olsen Sr. [Olie]) I had the wonderful opportunity to be the youngest in an extended family of 16! I have nothing but great memories of being Beverly Tenken in Berlin, Ma. (about '71-'76) We had horses, dogs, cats, pigs, sisters, brothers..one brother had hawks at one time, one sister had snakes....such a diverse group of people. I have always thought of them fondly and said a prayer for them and wished them well. Kelly Egan, Terry Egan, Shelley Egan, Erin Egan, Kandi (Campbell) Prentiss, Colleen (Ernie) Egan, Carl Olsen, Neil Olsen, Karen Olsen (Chapman) Martha Olsen, Chris Olsen...I had two nephews (dang near my age) Christopher Parker and Benjamin Parker....Fond memories! I have lost touch with each of them. I did reconnect with Karen Olsen years back (she was Karen Chapman, married to George Chapman at the time) and sort of got to know her boys. She was a dear woman and wonderful sister to Barbara and me. Road trip to Canada in 74- what a great memory!! Thank you Karen!
I know that my mother went in and stirred things up and many likely have hard feelings for her, but I wish them all the best and God's blessings upon them and their families. Sometimes it seems as if that part of my life wasn't "my life" but it was. We weren't there very long and Olie passes away a few years back now (RIP). Even though I felt like he never cared for me, i do remember one time in particular (with great fondness) of being in Mason laying tar on the roof (cellar roof) with him, working hard all day, he was good to me....He just scared me and i tried too hard to manipulate the situation. But I do remember enjoying this day with him. I will write more later on this....
